As a farmer I know the importance of light and sunshine for the growing, ripening and sweetening of our fresh strawberries and blueberries. The plants and bushes need sunlight for a process called photosynthesis. Every plant we grow needs sunlight. We as human beings need sunlight. Have you been feeling weak, tired or blah? Lacking sunshine or Vitamin D can be a big part of it. Vitamin D is the sunshine vitamin. Vitamin D is produced by the body in a complex process that starts when sun-rays in the invisible ultraviolet B (UVB) part of the light spectrum are absorbed in the skin. Few foods are natural sources of vitamin D and you can supplement this sunshine vitamin, but nothing like the actual source. Did you ever get the flu or a cold in Summer? Come to think of it hardly ever, because we get so much sunshine. Vitamin D attributes to a strong immune system and strong bones. Let's try to get more sunshine 20-30 min a day or vitamin D supplements or foods high in vitamin D such as eggs, avocados or salmon.
